Mister Jagger
I style myself a “childhood advocate” and wish to encourage children and to steer them away from negative and self-destructive life choices. I believe that every child deserves a childhood, uninterrupted by traumatic media and inappropriate digital content, and that we, as a society, are currently failing to provide adequate safeguards for children in the area of digital media. I mean to pick up the mantle of Fred Rogers, to advocate for childhood, to consider his work as an inspiration, and translate something of the sort into short form videos and digital audio formats, creating safe, wholesome content for children of all ages.
The mission of Mister Jagger’s Neighborhood is to create safe, short form content for children ages 2 to 102, particularly focusing on the use of positive, motivating self-talk and affirmations. Other content may include educational information about nutrition, personal responsibility and general encouragement, as well as exercise, music, art, and emotional topics.
The model that fuels my memory, and thus my vision, is Fred Rogers’ Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood. He taught of friendship, being a good neighbor, dealing with emotions, and so much more. He kept children busy, and parents knew that he would be positive, non-violent, and wholesome. Parents trusted Fred with their children. When he wanted to expand young people’s knowledge or horizons, he would visit some place where he could interview someone and we the viewers could learn about something interesting without controversy; I am reminded of his touring me through a toy wagon factory and a crayon factory via his television show. I wish to be trusted by parents and caregivers to occupy children for short periods of time, and to build a significant collection of such content over time, whereby the videos and audio files can be accessed “on demand” and then occupy the attention of viewers / listeners at longer spans, if desired. My calling, I believe, is to do all of this with the intention of translation to multiple languages, to make the information available to the greatest number of children possible.
